Sue's Corner

Dear Red and Pink Hatters,
Feel a little (or, more likely, a LOT) stressed lately?  Any responsible person who pays too much attention to the cumulative world news of the day is bound to be tied up in knots most of the time.  Sometimes I ask myself whether it has always been like this: has virtually everyone in the world been seriously stressed since the beginning of time, or is everything really getting worse?
Of course, there are all kinds of stress, but I am talking, specifically, about the kind that results from paying too much attention to the daily news barrage from TV, radio and social media.  It occurs to me that we are victims, as well as beneficiaries, of a myriad of scientific advances.  We have gained the ability to know what’s going on almost everywhere in the world, almost as soon as it occurs.  But – if the “news” runs true to form, most of it is bad, making it possible for us to hear about hundreds of worrisome developments – instantaneously - on any given day.  Since there is often very little that you or I can do about these things, the more empathetic of us (which probably includes all women) often carry burdens over world events, about which we can do little or nothing.
Sorry – are you depressed yet?  Well, I wouldn’t want to pose a problem without offering a solution, and that solution is a vacation - not the expensive kind, but a mental one – one that can help unclench your stomach muscles and cause you to take deep, cleansing breaths. I’m inviting you to spend some time immersing yourself in the attached photos of storybook locations that actually exist in this world.  Each photo seems to grow more enchanting than the last one, and you may (as I did) find yourself scrolling back to the top and starting your little “trip” over again– maybe several times.  I’ve had these photos on my computer for months and I don’t know that I’ll ever delete them.  They are a wonderful antidote to the opposite kind of overload, just like “a spoonful of sugar.”
Think about which location calls to you most strongly and ask yourself why.  Imagine what life would be like in one of these places.  Go ahead and have a good fantasy!  I highly recommend it.  (In case you’re interested, I am torn between the Faroe Islands and Austria today.  Tomorrow I may go to Norway or Italy.)
And I am finding quite a bit of pleasure these days in a dark TV screen and a radio turned to “off.”  It’s been good for me.  Another thing I need to do more of is spend time with my friends (especially Red Hatters).  Their friendship and camaraderie is one of the best antidotes to stress I know!

In friendship,
 Sue Ellen, Exalted Queen Mother

WE MEET AGAIN

From Ambassador Queen Sally McDaniel of the Rouge Chapeau Mamah’s of Minerva, OH USA wrote to us about the value of the friendships to be found as a Member of the Red Hat Society.
Here is what she wishes to share:

I want to tell you how absolutely wonderful RHS is and share how it has connected me around the world. Few years ago, I learned of a EuroDisney Funvention arranged by a RHS Chapter at Euro Disney. Another Hatter and myself decided to attend. We were seated at a table with lots of Aussie girls. We had a great time meeting them and exchanging email addresses. Four years later, one of these gals co-hosted a 2012 Funvention in Darwin, Australia. Well, this opportunity struck my fancy, so I decided to go; booked flights, got a visa and off I went! I had such a fabulous time. Two of the ladies that I met at the EuroDisney event were there from Western Australia. I was one of the only Americans there. I know this part is so Red Hat, but I fell in love with Judy, the co-host’s shoes. She had a collection of the most unique shoes!   So, one night, unbeknownst to me, one of the new gals I met, made arrangements with Judy to present me with a pair of RED Gum Boots. I dragged those boots all over AU and then to New Zealand before returning home.   I am still over the top with excitement at the gesture and wear them to this day.

As time moves along, emails and cards fly between us and along comes the San Antonio Convention, and guess what? My friend, Ambassador Queen Gail Snell of the Top End Feral Flames from Darwin, North Territory, Australia, registered to come along with four other Chapter Members. We met in San Antonio and spent the time of our lives. (So far!)

This world is very small and here once again, friends made through the RHS prove to be those to cherish. The RHS enables us to keep our friendship going. We have good times together; laughing, sharing, in person, online, and simply being friends. Only through RHS could this happen. I just wanted to share how wonderful this friendship is.

Thanks, from Sally, a loyal believer! Supporting Member. GO RHS GO, long live the Red, Purple, Pink and Lavender!

RHS Virtual Fairy Fantasy Ball Agenda Announced! PLEASE SHARE!!!

Thursday, November 10, 2016
9AM PDT to 5PM PDT

9AM PDT: Welcome to the Party! Thank you for coming! As you make your way through our front door, you’ll find our fairy greeters ready to sprinkle you with pixie dust. Once you’ve partaken of the fairy dust, you’ll notice that you’ll be shrinking down to the size of one of our fairies. Today, you are an honorary fairy! And…for the purposes of our time together today, the fairies have graciously donated wings to each one of you. That way you’ll be able to flit about with one another introducing yourselves. Oh! Heavens me! Where are my manners? I am Ruby RedHat, your hostess for today. What kind of party would we be hosting if we didn’t let everyone get to know one another? Please share who are you, why have you joined us today and if you are an RHS Member (yet)? If you are new to RHS, we want to be the first to welcome you to the party! We’ll use the COMMENT section of this particular post to share our answers. If you are hosting a LIVE party, please share that with us here. We want to see all the live fun happening throughout the day.

10AM PDT: Show us your fairy wand. Every fairy has her very own wand. “Borrow” your favorite fairy wand from images on the internet and showcase just how fabulous your wand is. If you could be so kind as to share WHY your wand is so fabulous, too! If you are new to a virtual party, all you need to do is find an image online that you like and share it in the COMMENT section of the post. You are also welcome to take a photo of you with your own.

11AM PDT: Fairy Wing Contest: (PRIZE TO BE AWARDED FOR Most Creative! Entries will be taken within this hour’s post until 4PM PDT) All guests are invited to use their fairy powers to decorate their fairy wings for consideration in this hour’s post. Decorate a pair of fairy wings, snap a picture of yourself wearing your wings and post it within the COMMENT section of this post ONLY. Anyone who posts their wings OUTSIDE OF THIS POST will not be considered for the prize. In this hour we’re looking for actual decorated wings, not “virtual” decorated wings from the internet. That placement automatically enters you in the contest to win a prize at the end of our party!

12PM PDT: Sweet Fairy Fare- Fairies love foods that are sweet and are prepared with saffron. Among fairies' favorite foods are milk with honey, plain milk, sweet butter and honey cakes. How appropriate for we Hatters! We like to eat our dessert first, too. So, instead of eating protein with veggies, this luncheon will be completely made up of sweet treats! In the COMMENTS section below, show us what sweet treats you have brought to share.

1PM PDT: Fairy Flower Headpiece Contest- No fairy’s outfit is complete without a fairy flower headpiece and no Hatter’s wardrobe is complete without something atop her head. In honor of both fairies AND Red (and Pink) Hatters everywhere, we’re hosting a contest for the most creative headpiece design. This is a REAL contest and as such, we are looking for actual pictures of you wearing your design. Post a photo of you wearing your design in the COMMENT section of this post ONLY for an opportunity to win a prize! Those who post outside of this COMMENT section will not be considered for the prize. That placement automatically enters you in the contest to win a prize at the end of our party!

2PM PDT: Fairy Facts: Today, the tables are turned, and instead of Ruby RedHat asking trivia questions, we’ll be looking for each one of you to provide us with a creative, fun fact about fairies. Be creative with your posts. There will be a prize for the best fairy fact. Entries can be made UNDER THIS POST ONLY until 4PM PDT. Anyone who offers a fairy fun fact OUTSIDE OF THIS POST will not be considered for the prize. At 5PM PDT, Ruby RedHat will announce the winner of the fairy fun fact prize. Ready, set, go!

3PM PDT: Have a turn at the Wishing Well: All good fairies take their turn at the wishing well. At these magical wells, humans share the wishes closest to their heart. Only a human who believes in fairies will have her wish granted. Lend your ear to the well. Who do you hear? What does she wish for and will you appear? To grant her wish, that’s your task. Hurry now, hurry now our fairy dust won’t last! In the COMMENT section below, share with us who your human is, what she desires and how you are making her dreams come true today.

4PM PDT: Fairy Door Ceremony: Shhh…the Queen of the Fairies is coming this way! I know you are new to this but courtesy—don’t sway! Follow our fairy friends’ lead and take your place in line as the Queen Fairy gives each one of us a special fairy and door that we’ll watch over. Don’t push and don’t shove, there are plenty for all. She’ll look into your heart and pick a special fairy for you to watch. This fairy will live alongside you in your home. She’ll flit and she’ll flutter through the fairy door she’ll go. You’ll feed her, protect her and won’t let her roam. But there are so many of us, one can’t always hear…what did the Queen Fairy say to you? Who will you rear? Tell us about your fairy. Share with us your door. We can’t wait to know all the excitement that will be happening in your home! In the COMMENT section below, give us your fairy’s name and share with us what she looks like. How? “Borrow” a photo from the internet and post it in the COMMENT section of this post. Oh! How exciting!

5PM: Our fairy dust is wearing off and we’re beginning to grow big again. We have just a few more moments before our party ends. A thank you to the fairies and to each one of you. Let’s announce our winners and fondly bid adieu.
1. Most Creative Fairy Wings
2. Best Flower Headpiece
3. Most creative fun fact about fairies

GUEST BLOGGER - A NEW BEGINNING

Have you ever forgotten your login password and then had to answer a series of security questions in order to reset the password to get yet another password? I had such a senior moment just the other day. Even though I couldn’t for the life of me remember the password, I could CERTAINLY answer all the security questions BECAUSE the security questions were all about my FIRSTs. What was your first job? What was the make of your first car? What is the name of your first-born child? We remember our firsts because they are connected to our personal history, our emotions and our senses.

My first job was at a Mister Donut shop. I passed this donut shop every day on my way to and from the school-bus stop. I was a sophomore in high school. My job was to put fresh donuts in the display case for the customers. By the end of my shift, all the fluffy, puffy cream filled donuts I had touched had dents in them. I was a little heavy handed in my first-job enthusiasm. I was let go after one day.

My first car was a blue 4-door 1950-something Ford sedan. I didn’t learn how to drive until AFTER College – I had just turned 20 when I got my driver’s license. This was the car to get me to work and back. Being very practical aka cheap, it served me well.

The name of my first-born son is John Dale Emerson. John Dale, the name just rings of sweetness. John’s birth was an exhilarating experience for me … well-prepared, 100% natural, no complications, NO PAIN, just pure joy --- If you believe that, I have a bridge to sell you for $1.00.

Another memorable first, though not related to those security questions, happened at age 50.  That’s when I ran my first marathon. It took me 6 and a half hours to complete it. I was used to being the caboose in my training as I always came in last on our practice long runs. I ran this marathon in Athens, Greece on the same path that Philipedes ran thousands of years ago from the town of Marathon to Athens. Philipedes died when he reached Athens. I totally get it – without water and race markers to guide me to the finish, I thought for sure I was going follow in Philipedes steps.  But, I didn’t. I managed to shuffle my way to the finish line parched and exhausted. The good news, HOWEVER, is that this was the start of a new lifestyle for me – a lifestyle of fitness and daily exercise.

I’m at the stage in my life where I can look at events as “FIRSTS” or “LASTS”. By golly, I choose to be challenged by NEW firsts.  As long as I’m vertical, I will not stop seeking out FIRSTS.

Last year, I set out to learn a new language. Not Italian, not Arabic, not Chinese … I took American Sign Language I AND Spanish I at Florida State College. OK, I’m an overachiever. Of course, I was the oldest student and I was proud of that.   Now that 2017 is here, I want to tap into my creative, crafty side. I want to learn how to do more DIY projects. There are so many clever ideas on Pinterest to try. What’s “in your wallet” for 2017?

GUEST BLOGGER - BAN THE BEAD

Ban The Bead!!

Today I’m getting on my soapbox (no pun intended!) and talking about MICROBEADS! Those teeny, tiny bits of PLASTIC, smaller than a grain of sand. YES, they are everywhere. You may be swishing them around in your mouth or rubbing them in your face. Microbeads show up in lots of personal care products: face soaps, body wash, toothpaste, even age defying makeup. Companies put them in these products as exfoliates or just for texture. You may not even realize you’re using them unless you know what to look for: polyethylene, polypropylene, polyethylene terephthalate.

The biggest problem with microbeads is that they’re designed to go down the drain. Most water treatment plants can’t capture them so BILLIONS of them end up in our waterways – our rivers, lakes, seas. Tiny bits of plastic from body washes and other products are polluting the Great Lakes. A California research group recently found more than 450,000 plastic particles per square kilometer in Lake Erie, DOUBLE what similar surveys have found in oceans. Comparable levels of plastic microbeads have also been found in samples from Lake Superior and Lake Huron. And even worse, these tiny bits of plastic act like sponges soaking up the toxics around them. A single microbead can wind up being a MILLION times more toxic than the water around it. Once in our waterways, they get eaten by fish and other animals. They could even make their way right back to you in your sushi. How’s that for the circle of life!

Why do companies put these plastic microbeads in their products? BECAUSE, plastic is cheaper than the natural exfoliates we used to use, like coca beans, sea salts, and sesame seeds. Plus, it’s an excuse to sell more stuff. Those natural exfoliates worked so well, you would only use them once a week. Microbeads are smooth enough to use every day. Which means you run out quicker and have to buy more of that product.

The good news is we ARE moving forward in Banning The Bead. Illinois became the first state to ban the manufacture and sale of products containing microbeads. The Body Shop, Johnson & Johnson, and L’OrĂ©al have pledged to phase out plastic microbeads from their products. Places around the world are considering outright bans. The Netherlands is the first country to announce its intent to be virtually free of microbeads in cosmetics by next year.

No matter where you live you can Ban the Bead! Let’s get them out of our stuff, out of our waterways and out of our bodies.

ULTIMATE DIET TIPS

ULTIMATE DIET TIPS

The ULTIMATE diet tips from famous folks - past and present - for staying fit and fabulous!

1. "Just as you balance your spending and savings, you must balance your food choices. Don't eat too much of any one thing. Balance starches with proteins, vegetables and fruits with sweets, and always balance a splurge with a save." Bethany Frankel, The Skinnygirl

2. "Eat when you are hungry, not when you are bored ... If you're not hungry enough to eat an apple, then you're not hungry." Michael Pollan, Food Rules

3. "There'll always be some weird thing about eating four grapes before you go to bed, or drinking a special tea, or buying this little bean from El Salvador. If you watch your portions and have a good attitude and you work out every day, you'll live longer, feel better and look terrific." Richard Simmons

4. "The truth has dawned that fresh vegetables are not only good for you, they are wonderfully good to eat - when lovingly prepared." Julia Child

5. "Food is not your remedy for problems. Food is not going to change your life ... If you're going to lose weight, you have to do it by changing your way of thinking about food." Jean Nidetch, founder of Weight Watchers

6. "Tap into how food makes you feel. If skipping a slice of cake is going to leave you bummed, enjoy a small serving and savor it. But if that cake makes you feel "bleh", skip it. You know yourself better than anyone, so take the time to tune in to what works for you." Joy Bauer, RDN, nutrition expert for NBC's Today show, author From Junk Food to Joy Food

7. "Don't go treat-free. This is a bad way to live. If you go to one extreme, the pendulum is just going to swing all the way back. to the other ... I like to say the 80-20 rule. Eighty percent of the time, eat the cleaner, healthier foods; 20 percent of the time, have the burger, fries, the glass of wine." Jillian Michaels

8. "The shorter the ingredient list, the better." David Katz, MD, director of Yale University Prevention Research Center

9. "Don't diet. When you diet, you are basically setting yourself up for failure.I mean, the word die is in there! You're not allowing yurself to enjoy the food you love and it will only make you want it that much more. Make smart lifestyle changes, one baby step at a time." Khloe Kardashian

10. "The more you eat, the less flavor; the less you eat, the more flavor." Chinese proverb

CHANGE YOURSELF – CHANGE THE WORLD

CHANGE YOURSELF – CHANGE THE WORLD

How much stuff do you need? How much stuff actually makes you happier? We know stuff adversely affects our environment BUT, collectively, small lifestyle changes can make a HUGE impact on the environment – and your life. Are you looking for happiness and health? It turns out, what’s good for the environment is also good for you.

I began questioning a materialistic lifestyle when I read “No Impact Man, The Adventures of a Guilty Liberal Who Attempts to Save the Planet. “In 2009, New York City resident, Colin Beavan, documented his attempt to live without making any net impact on the environment- not only in this book but also a sensational documentary film. He did his best to create NO trash (which meant, NO take-out food), to cause NO carbon dioxide emissions (NO driving or flying), to pour NO toxins in the water system (NO laundry detergent), buy NO produce from distant lands (NO kiwis from New Zealand). There would be NO elevators, NO subway, NO products in packaging, NO plastics, NO air conditioning, NO TV, NO buying anything new in this lifestyle experiment. Sound extreme? It was meant to be.

Of course, I’m not suggesting you need to go to Mr. Beavan’s extremes; HOWEVER, there are four simple things you can do to make less impact on the environment.

First and foremost, BUY LESS – instead of instantly going to buy something, make it a habit to sit with the idea for a day or two to see if you can live without it. Less Stuff = More Time. The biggest eater of time is simply “stuff”. The more stuff you own – and the fancier the stuff – the more time is spent to get it, maintain it and dispose of it properly. Voluntary Simplicity is where it is at — IF you want more time to enjoy life!

(Hatters love to collect stuff but it’s also fun to up-cycle your extras.  Learn “How to Host a Shop ‘N Swap” in the latest Red Hatter Matters online magazine, a Member benefit.  Use this link to view: https://www.redhatsociety.com/sites/all/themes/red_hat_society/pdf/RHM_2016Q3_lr.pdf)

Second, compost your food ‘trash’.  Ben and I have a compost tumbler on our patio. Once a year, I buy a small container of red wigglers to help with the break down. We love our worms! We thank them every day for giving us beautiful nutrient dense top-soil for our garden.

Third, Say No To Plastic Bags! If you buy something that might leak and you absolutely must use one, get only ONE!

And finally, get a Pedometer! You’ll walk more. There’s nothing magical about this. When you track your steps, you will walk more and use your vehicle less. The bottom line is: you’ll be healthier, and the air will be just a little less emission-filled.

In 2014, I took on a personal challenge to wear one little purple dress for 30-days. Yes, I had a twin-little purple dress … one to wear, one to wash. I reinvented MLPD with accessories I had in my closet. If I bought anything, it was from a thrift shop. Check out my YouTube video: MLPD-my little purple dress.  It was such a fun project that I went 150-days in my little purple dress.

Saving our planet’s precious resources is up to each and every one of us.  Live a lifestyle that supports environmental sustainability. You don’t have to be an environmental geek. You don’t even have to be a long-haired hippie or a tree-hugger. Just, start small, be consistent, conscientious and compassionate. Change yourself, and you can change the world.

Compliments of Queen Sunny of the Fit ‘N Fabulous Chapter of the Red Hat Society.

FAITH, TRUST, HOPE, CONFIDENCE, LOVE AND ATTITUDE

FAITH, TRUST, HOPE, CONFIDENCE, LOVE AND ATTITUDE

Everything ever written about relationships stresses the primary importance of good communication. When trying to build a close connection with another person, you must find a way to effectively communicate your feelings, thoughts and ideas to her. Open exchanges of thoughts, accompanied by sincere efforts to understand each other result in excellent communication. If this kind of exchange doesn’t take place there will be a lot of space for misunderstandings to occur. Often you won’t even know if you got your point across at all, and this can be extremely frustrating. When an understanding gulf becomes obvious it becomes necessary to search for other words or illustrations in order to try again. You just won’t feel as connected as you were hoping you would.

Over the years, I have come to believe that the premier method of ensuring good communication is through using word pictures or short illustrations, employing common life experiences as examples. You can really drive home a point when you’re able to give a good illustration or example - and you are often able to do it very succinctly. When you can tell that the other person “gets it” that shared understanding is the beginning of communication. I came across the following “Six Tiny Stories” on the internet; they explain some deep concepts very well – and in very few words:

Once all villagers decided to pray for rain. On the day of prayer, all the people gathered, but only one boy came with an umbrella. That’s FAITH.

When you throw a baby in the air, she laughs, because she knows you will catch her. That’s TRUST.

Every night we go to bed, without any assurance of being alive the next morning, but still we set the alarm to wake up. That’s HOPE.

We plan big things for tomorrow in spite of zero knowledge of the future. That’s CONFIDENCE.

We see the world suffering, but still we get married and have children. That’s LOVE.

On an old man’s shirt was written a sentence, “I am not 90 years old...I am sweet 16 with 74 years’ experience. That’s ATTITUDE.

The anonymous person who wrote these little stories has managed to communicate succinctly and clearly, their definition of faith, trust, hope, confidence, love and attitude. I think anyone who reads them will “get it!”

CHANGE, EMBRACE IT OR RESIST IT?

 Achieving Balance

You can resist change or embrace it. Either way, change is not going away.

·        Change Happens – By noticing small changes early on you adapt to the bigger changes that are yet to come.

·        You Can Anticipate Change – Ever hear the expression “The handwriting is on the wall”?

·        You have to monitor AND adapt to change quickly.

·        You Must Change – If you don’t change, you can become extinct.

·        Enjoy Change!  Be ready to change quickly and enjoy it again & again.  Always, ask yourself: Is this the end or is it a new beginning?

YES, change will happen, so might as well embrace it!!

How can you achieve the balance necessary to keep a level head and a healthy attitude amidst all this change? Learn how to effectively handle the stresses of change. After all, the better you are at handling stress, the better off you will be.

Here’s what I do to keep a level head and a healthy attitude amidst all this change. I walk. I walk 10,000 steps every single day, rain or shine. By walking consistently and mindfully, you can achieve the mental, emotional and physical well-being for coping with life’s stresses.

I prefer to walk outside and commune with Nature. BUT, what if you can’t walk outside? No problem. Did you know there are walking DVDs? DVDs by Leslie Sansone are my Plan B when I can’t get outside. Leslie Sansone is my go-to gal when the weather is not cooperating.

Walking is a stress buster. Walking improves your immune system. Walking can lower your high blood pressure. Walking releases endorphins – those natural feel good hormones. Walking is anti-aging. Walking improves your circulation so that your skin glows. Walking is FREE!

AND, what if you don’t have time to walk for an hour? You can break it up … walk 20 minutes three times during your day. If you walk 20 minutes after each meal, you’ll be helping your body digest your food.

I challenge you to stop making excuses and start moving. You’ll be glad you did. Remember, a Fit Hatter is a Healthy, Happy Hatter.

As we get ready to board the time machine, we want to know who’s here!

10AM PDT: Hop aboard the time machine! Our destination? An alternate 19th century where America’s Wild West meets the British Victorian era in a little retro futuristic town known as Red Hollow. As we step out of the time machine into this new and foreign land, let’s share what we see! If you are new to a virtual party, all you need to do is find an image online that conveys what you are seeing in front of you and share it in the COMMENT section of the post. If you are hosting a LIVE party and want to post those photos of what you see before you, please do! Need a little education? Take a look at Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steampunk

11AM PDT: Steampunk Artifact Contest (PRIZE TO BE AWARDED FOR Most Creative! Entries will be taken within this hour’s post until 4PM PDT) All guests are invited to create a uniquely designed steampunk inspired artifact for consideration in this hour’s post. Create your accessory, snap a picture of yourself with your piece and post it (and an explanation of what it is) within the COMMENT section of this post ONLY. Anyone who posts their accessory OUTSIDE OF THIS POST will not be considered for the prize. That placement automatically enters you in the contest to win a prize at the end of our party! Need some inspiration in what to create for submission? Check out these google images: https://www.google.com/search…

12PM PDT: Red Hollow’s Victorian Luncheon- Step into Red Hollow’s Victorian Parlour for a luncheon like you’ve never experienced before. Don’t worry, we serve the finest of teas throughout history.

1PM PDT: Steampunk Fashion Show- Allow us to introduce you to Red Hollow’s world famous fashion designer, Baroness C. Roan Charley. She has joined us today to offer her critiques and style tips on our Steampunk fashions. We want to see what you are wearing at today’s event. Whether you be wearing a virtual outfit that you “borrowed” from the internet or you are dressed in your own steampunk attire, each attendee is welcome to join this virtual fashion show. In the COMMENT section of this post, share photos of what you are wearing.

2PM PDT: Red Hollow’s government representative, Lord S. Farrell Earle, has joined us for an afternoon of trivia fun. A time traveler himself, Lord Earle is best known for the time he spent with Jules Verne and H. G. Wells offering them insider insight into both the future and the past. He thought he would share with us some Steampunk trivia to see how much we know on the subject. The attendee with the most correct answers will win a prize! At 5pm today, we’ll be awarding our winner! How to play: In the COMMENT section of THIS post ONLY, Ruby RedHat will be asking questions on behalf of Lord Earle. Anyone who answers questions OUTSIDE OF THIS POST will not be considered for the prize. You are invited to give it your best answer, but be quick! Some of these attendees are trivia buffs! Ruby will share who the winner is within the COMMENT section. Once the correct answer is given, she’ll ask the next question within the thread.

3PM PDT: Red Hollow’s World Famous Steampunk Carousel- Stroll with Lord Earle to the town’s amusement park and take a ride on the carousel. Listen to the familiar fairground organ as it plays the tunes of old. Are you riding a horse or a sea creature? Show us what animal or sea creature you’ve chosen. Use the COMMENT section below to post your image you’ve “borrowed” from the internet.

4PM PDT: There are plenty of Steampunk inspired games to play. Some that come to mind are “Battle Croquet” and “Fling-A-Familiar,” but this afternoon, we’ll play the ultimate of Steampunk games that just so happens to be right up a Hatter’s alley! Help us build the world’s tallest hatstack. Simply put, it’s our virtual hats stacked one on top of the other within our post. How to play: Find your favorite Steampunk inspired hat on the internet or take a picture of your own and add the photo to the COMMENT section of this post. The virtual record for the most virtual hats creating a hatstack is 150. Can we beat the record within the hour? Find as many hats as you want and keep adding them until the end of the hour.

5PM PDT: Last Call to board our time machine bound for September 15, 2016. Who’s coming along? Who has found their new life’s journey? But, before we close the door on our time machine, We’ll end our time together by announcing the winners of today’s adventure in the COMMENT section of this post. The categories are:

1. Most Creative Steampunk inspired artifact
2. Most correct answers during the trivia hour
3. Person who posts the most hats in the hatstack
