Ruby RedHat, Red Hat Society Mascot
Ruby RedHat's Top Ten Rules for Living number four is: "Indulge your Sense of Humor!"
Humor is almost as essential to Hatting as air is to breathing. When we were little girls, we'd burst into giggles at the drop of a hat. But, as we grew older, we sobered up - so much that we may have overshot the mark. The RHS highly recommends more giggling, and Membership in our Society will help provide them.
So how does one premeditate laughter? I have heard it said, more than once, that our brains can't tell the difference between forced laughter and real laughter. If we put on a huge smile and start chortling, our mood will actually improve because the brain assumes that something good is going on. It sounds counterintuitive, but I suggest you try it. It works!
In the early days of Red Hatting, we coined a saying, "Lighten up, ladies!" (LUL) Lightening up, ladies, can lead to LOL (lots of laughter).
Ruby RedHat is of the opinion that laughter is the only medicine that needs no prescription, has no unpleasant taste and costs no money. She likes to call it "vitamins for the soul." Maybe we should refer to it as Vitamin "L"! And there's no such thing as an overdose!
