Let's start our RHS summer with Coca Cola Classic Granita Float

Old fashioned Coca Cola in a glass bottle is a nostalgic summer classic. Our take on the Coke float includes an intermediate step in which the Coca Cola is turned into an icy

Granita.

Ingredients:

- One small glass bottle of Mexico Coca Cola (original formula, made with sugar instead of corn syrup) per person
- Vanilla bean ice cream
- Optional: mini chocolate chip cookie garnish

Steps:

1. Pour Coca Cola into a freezer-safe bowl and allow to freeze completely

2. Use fork tines to scrape the frozen Coke out of the bowl into little chips

3. Pour scrapings into a dessert bowl and add a large scoop of vanilla bean ice cream on top.
4. Garnish with a crispy mini chocolate chip cookie placed off to the side on top of the ice cream scoop.

WHAT DOES LOVE MEAN?

What Love means to a 4-8 year old...

“Love is what makes you smile when you're tired.”
Terri - age 4

“Love is what's in the room with you at Christmas if you stop opening presents and listen.”
Bobby - age 7

“When you love somebody, your eyelashes go up and down and little stars come out of you.”
[What an image!]
Karen - age 7

What Love means to a Red Hat Society Member….

“Love is when you are trusted enough to have the Founding Chapter Queen pass her scepter to you and inherit 14 of the most wonderful friends a new Queen could ever have – caring, funny and spirited. Without the Red Hat Society, we’d be just another ladies group.”
Yvette

“When you laugh at the dumbest jokes, put up with each other’s moods and go along with the craziest ideas. That’s what makes the most amazing Red Hat best friends.”
Barbara

“Love is when a Sister is blue; you sit with her, hold her hand and do nothing but silently help her cry.”
[What a feeling!]

Kim

LESS IS MORE

Beauty Makeup artist and model Cindy Joseph’s makeup tips for Boomers

(Yes, that’s us, ladies!)

1. Use cream-based, not powder-based cosmetics on your face. Powder adds texture to skin that already has developed texture.

2. A good rule of thumb for lipstick is to find a tone that matches the inner lip or gums.

3. Women older than 50 tend to lose definition in their eyebrows. Just go with that. Don’t recreate the brows you had in your 20s.

4. This is a hard one, but do not wear any eye shadow at all (and especially no contour eye shadow in the crease because it gives the appearance of deepening the crease). A little bit of mascara is OK.

5. Tinted moisturizers don’t work. If you’re going to use a foundation to even out skin tone, find one that gives coverage but doesn’t add texture. Be willing to spend money on a foundation and take your time to experiment and find the exact right shade. Matching your skin tone exactly is critical.

We love a pro-aging philosophy that boosts self esteem. Red Hat Society’s viewpoint is that we are all in this together. Cheerfully, we apply a fresh application of lipstick and set our caps to positively reshape the way that women are viewed by today’s culture and we’re having a blast doing it!

Blinged Beach Sandal

Spring is here and Summer is quickly approaching. It is time to put away the winter boots and bring out sandals.  We have put a spin and a little bling to the basic beach or pool flip flop.  These sandals are extremely inexpensive and you can dress them up with a strip of bling.

Materials
Scissors
Strip of rhinestones
Thong beach sandals
Glue

Glue a strip of the stones around the bottom of the shoe.  be sure to use a hot glue gun if your strip is not self adhesive.

Cover the thong in the front of the shoe.

Very easy to make...less than 20 minutes!  Bling Bling

Jet Setting Jitters

Each year the Hatquarters of the Red Hat Society throws a huge weekend party for a couple of thousand of our Members; set each time in a different vacation- worthy location.  We plan, pack and get ready to go.  Ah, but now, we have to get there.

I must admit that I come from a long matriarchal line of “don’t like to flyers.”   It started with my Grand Mother who was known around town as the Bus Babe.  At a mere 87, she could be seen hopping on the bus, solo, to travel across Texas, happy as can be, with her knitting balanced delicately on her lap. My Mother, a thoroughly modern woman, tried her best to keep her feet on the ground, but alas, a time came that she had to fly so she came up with a solution.  It was called the Martini!   I learned at her knee that just one of these concoctions paved the way for a non-fearful flight.   My pre-flight tonic of choice was the Bloody Mary – I loved that anti-fear garden in a glass!

I thought my fears had been conquered and that all was well until it was time to fly back to Los Angeles from the RHS Dallas Funvention one Sunday.   To my surprise, guess who has blue laws?  Dallas!  No booze sold on Sunday!!!   I thought I’d faint.  Well, I flew un-liquored for the first time in my life and guess what?  It wasn’t so bad.  I just pretended that I had had a drink.  Voila!  Everything was okay.  I’ve never felt the need to nip prior to flight time again.

The point of this little story is not to encourage you to tipple but to face your fears bravely.  It doesn’t matter how you get on that plane; what’s important is that you actually climb on board.

We hope to see you at one of our future RHS Funventions.  The next one is the Speedway Sparkle, Indianapolis, Indiana USA – August 13 – 16, 2015.  All roads (trains and planes) lead to INDY!
