Butterfly Wings

By 2014 Hatter of the Year Marilyn Cresci

In this month's "Butterfly Wings" column, Lady Butterfly Marilyn Cresci shares the very special way the Red Hat Society gives back to the community. Here's what she has to say:
"As promised, I am answering questions today. I have a question submitted from a new Red Hatter, J.C. of Texas.
Question: Is RHS strictly a social club or do they contribute something to their area in any way?
Answer:   Welcome J.C. of Texas. This is a very good question. We give back to our community in many ways. First I am going to restate our Mission Statement.
Fun: We celebrate life at every age and stage
Friendship: We solidify and support the expansion of the bonds of sisterhood.
Freedom: We discover and explore new interests and renew abandoned ones.
Fulfillment: We realize our personal potential.
Fitness: We embrace healthy, life-lengthening lifestyles
This in itself will improve our outlook on life in general. As we go about our daily life and interact with our community, we smile at the tired cashier in the grocery store. We are very respectful of all who wait on us in restaurants, at the car wash, at the bank and in the shopping centers.
Why are we always smiling and being very happy?  We have a secret.
We are Red Hat Sisters and we know that in a few days if not today we will be meeting up with some of them and giggling and supporting each other.
Being a Hatter opens a lot of new doors for us. We are having such a grand time exploring and enriching our lives that we become a very positive force in everyone's life we meet.
There are many stories that have come into Hatquarters from women whose lives have changed since they became Members of the Red Hat Society.  There is the story of the widow, who had just about given up on life before joining the Sisterhood.  Her life is so full now that she is always busy in her community and has formed wonderful new friendships with her new Sisters.
Do we give back to our communities?  You bet we do! In many ways! We have the energy and the commitment to one another as Sisters. This gives us a new energy and a very positive outlook on life. Sit back and watch all those purple shoulders and red hats liven up a room no matter where they go."
If you have a question you would like to ask Marilyn, you can send it to cresci86@hotmail.com.
