Seeing Red This February

We don't know about you, but everywhere we looked this month, we were seeing red. But not for the reason you might be thinking about. Sure cupid did his part for lovers across the globe on Valentine's Day, but we were seeing red for heart health. While women across the United States raised awareness about the dangers of heart disease by wearing red for the American Heart Association's Go Red For Women campaign, we took the issue across country borders.

As an international Sisterhood, the Red Hat Society was compelled to get in on the action because heart disease is the #1 killer of women, and we are all about heart. Not to mention the color palette for the movement is right up our alley. (What woman doesn't look fabulous in red?)

Throughout the month, we encouraged Hatters to wear red and get informed about the benefits of heart health, because we believe that a healthy Hatter is a happy Hatter! Each week we shared new tips pertaining to health, the importance of de-stressing, and we inspired them to laugh on our Facebook page. For example:

“Laughing can be a great workout for your heart. Whenever you laugh, the blood flow in your heart is increased for up to 45 minutes, which in turn improves your heart health.” Have you laughed today?

We got interactive with them:
Here are a few words related to heart-health that have been scrambled. Can you guess what they are?

Paint Marks The Spot

When's the last time you got lost in a great book? The weather is going to warm up as we head into Spring, and when the sun is shining, there's nothing better than heading outside, basking in the sun and embarking on an adventure with a great page-turner.

Last week, we came across this unique and super cute Paint Chip Bookmark idea on Pinterest, which kind of goes perfectly with our outdoor reading plans! Not only is it practically free, but it's a super easy and fun way to personalize your reading materials when you are out with your favorite novel. Of course, you can create this book bookmark in any color you would like, but at the Red Hat Society, we get tickled over finding ways to flaunt our signature colors red and purple for Red Hatters (women ages 50 and up) and pink and lavender for our Pink Hatters (women ages 49 and under).

For today's DIY post, we headed over to the local hardware store and picked up a few paint chips that went along with our signature color palette and used some of the bling we had leftover from sequins from decorating our 15 Printable this month and some ribbon to jazz them up.

Starting a book club soon? This is a perfect little trinket to give your Members. You can even customized the bookmarks by including the names of the women, their royal titles or a special message. Give this easy craft a try. You'll be surprised with how many different ways you can give it your own special touch!

Be sure to share your photos and ideas with us at Stories@RedHatSociety.com!

And The Oscar Goes To...

The 85th Academy Awards are set to take place this Sunday, and if you are anything like us, you've probably tried to watch as many of the Best Picture nominations as possible to see which films and actors you would have chosen for the different awards. Now that the biggest weekend in Hollywood is here, we wanted to get interactive with the awards ceremony to see how our opinions compared with the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences. Fresh off of the Hatquarters design desk is the printable 2013 Oscars Party Ballot!

Whether you are going to watch the Oscars by yourself or with friends and family, this printable Oscars Ballot, will help you keep track of the nominations and winners. You can even make a game of this ballot by printing several copies for your friends and family members, and challenging them to see who can guess the most award winners correctly.

Now we want to hear from you! The Nominations for Best Picture are:

Amour

Argo
Beasts of the Southern Wild
Django Unchained
Les Misérables

Life of Pi
Lincoln
Silver Linings Playbook
Zero Dark Thirty

Which movie do you think is going to earn the Oscar?

Speaking of exciting events taking place this week...
We are excited to announce that we have an incredible giveaway taking place from our newest celebrity Sister: Cyndi Lauper!  The Red Hat Society was featured in her WEtv reality show "Cyndi Lauper: Still So Unusual" this month, and she provided the Red Hat Society with an autographed Cyndi Lauper Bag filled with goodies! Laizzez Les Bon Temps Rouler

The Hatquarters of the Red Hat Society was a-buzz for this past week's festive Fat Tuesday!  After, receiving a wonderful box of Mardi Gras goodies from 2011 Hatter of the Year, Queen Too Too, Hatquarters team members spent the afternoon decked-out in Mardi Gras masks and beads and dreaming of jambalaya and beignets. Queen Too Too lives in Louisiana, and she was so sweet to let her Sisters in on the Mardi Gras traditions with these authentic trinkets.

Although the colors of Mardi Gras are green, yellow and purple, we Hatters love to put our own spin on traditions!

Want to see how the RHS gets into the spirit of Mardi Gras? Check out these RHS-inspired masks! The beautiful red mask is for CEO and Queen Lady Bug, Debra Granich, because, as you can tell from her Royal Title, she loves lady bugs. The bold feathered mask with red and purple is for a Red Hatter who wants to make a statement, and the pink glitzy masquerade mask is fabulous for our Pink Hatters! (Hatters under the age of 50)

From Hatquarters to you, Laizzez les bon temps rouler! Let the good times roll!

Hatters Go Red For Heart Health

The Red Hat Society is all about heart. As one of the largest women's social organizations in the world, we are committed to supporting the American Heart Association's Go Red for Women campaign to raise awareness about the dangers of heart disease in women. For several years, we have encouraged women to know the facts about heart disease and take preventative measures to ensure that they can lead a life filled with fun, friendship, freedom, fulfillment and fitness.

This past Friday, Hatters around the world donned head-to-toe red regalia for National Wear Red Day and went out to play! We asked them to share photos on our Facebook Page, and they happily obliged. Above is a collage of some of the photos we received.

The entire month of February is dedicated to heart-health, and we hope that you will join us in empowering women with the knowledge necessary to prevent or reduce their risk for heart disease. If you would like to learn more information about Go Red For Women, please click here

Heart Health Tip:
Know your numbers. You owe it to yourself to take an active role in your own health. Find out your blood pressure, cholesterol and weight and discuss those numbers with your doctor. With his or her help, you can monitor any changes and make informed decisions about your health.

A Heart-Healthy Gift
Throughout the month of February, Hatquarters of the Red Hat Society transforms into Heartquarters, and we encourage women to put their hearts first in both health and happiness. Hatters are empowered to lead lives filled with fun, friendship, freedom, fulfillment and fitness every day. If you know someone who could use a good girlfriend or reason to play, we encourage you to give her the Gift of Membership to the Red Hat Society. We hope you will join us in spreading the red this month! Click here to learn how you can give the Gift of Membership today.
