Did you recently get invited to a costume party or decide that you actually want to dress up for Halloween (which is just TWO days away)? Don't get stuck at a crowded store, when you could have all the items to whip up a fabulous costume right at home. To make life a bit easier, we did some legwork on Pinterest and pulled these five costumes that are easy, inexpensive and can be put together in a pinch. Best of all, we are going to tell you how to put an RHS spin on these costumes so you can be included in the RHS Virtual Halloween Costume Party and Contest on Facebook on Thursday. Enjoy!
Tissue Box- If you can get your hands on a large square box, cut a hole for your head at the top of the box, holes for your arms at the side of the box and a hole for your body at the bottom of the box. Then wrap the box with some decorative wrapping paper, and write the words Tissue or Kleenex on the front. Finally, glue some sheets of tissue paper around the hole where your head will be. RHS Spin: Wrap it in red or pink paper and use purple or lavender gift tissue paper.
Lego- Find a large rectangular box and cut a hole for your head at the top of the box, holes for your arms at the side of the box and a hole for your body at the bottom of the box. Glue six paper bowls to the box lengthwise in two rows of three. Allow the bowls to adhere to the box and spray paint the whole thing one color. Once it dries, you can write the word Lego on the bowls. RHS Spin: Paint the lego red, purple, pink or lavender. Get a Chapterette to do this with you so you can be red and she can be purple, or vice versa.
Gift- Find a large square box, cut a hole for your head at the top of the box, holes for your arms at the side of the box and a hole for your body at the bottom of the box. Wrap the box in wrapping paper of your choice. To finish the look place the biggest bow you can find on your head. RHS Spin: Use Red Hat wrapping paper, and wear a red or pink bow on your head.
Grapes- Choose and old purple, red or brown outfit that you don’t mind getting rid of. Blow up several large purple, red, black or green balloons and attach them to your shirt with a needle and some thread. As a finishing touch, place some vines and leaves in your hair.
Jelly Beans- Take large clear trash bag, and cut holes in the bottom of the bag for your legs. Blow up several multi-colored balloons to fill the bag around your body. Be sure to wear bright clothes to match the jelly beans. Step into the bag and fill the balloons in around your body leaving enough room to cinch the bag at your neck with some ribbon. Finally, print out a Jelly Belly logo or create your own special jelly bean logo, and print it to include inside the bag at the front of your costume. RHS Spin: Create a bag of red, purple, pink and lavender jelly beans, and use a red ribbon close the bag.
There you have it! Aren’t these ideas fun? If you are dressing up for Halloween, be sure to share your pictures with us on Facebook, and join us there on Thursday, October 31st for our 2nd Annual Virtual Costume Party and Contest.
