Vera Takes The Plunge

WOW! Queen Vera of the Tenacious Ol' Broads Chapter (Alabama, United States) has been one busy Hatter! Lately, she's been taking items from her Bucket List and crushing them with gusto in true Red Hat fashion! (Just look at these pictures!)

Here is Queen Vera in full regalia bungee jumping from a bridge in Amboy, Washington. To ensure that her hat would stay on her head during the fall, Vera attached it to her shirt with black elastic bands. It didn't move an inch!

Queen Vera is no stranger to adventure, and she is one tough cookie. An Air Force Veteran and breast cancer survivor, she completed a Warrior Dash with bright pink hair this past year!

In the Red Hat Society we embrace and encourage Hatters to pursue their passions. Fun, Friendship, Freedom, Fulfillment and Fitness- that's what we are all about! Are you ready to become a Member? Visit www.RedHatSociety.com to join today! Be sure to play with us on Facebook too!

Queen Sunny Places Top 10 In National Senior Games

We are excited to announce that Red Hat Society Ambassador and Queen of the Fit ‘n Fabulous Virtual Chapter, Sunny, competed in the 2013 National Senior Games in Cleveland, Ohio this past weekend! She participated in the 10k event, and she carried the Sisterhood with her through the entire event by competing in RHS Colors. Queen Sunny placed 9th in her Age Group (65-69). How incredible is that?!

In 2012, Sunny contacted Hatquarters to share that she had qualified for the National Senior Games, and she wanted to share her training journey in the hopes that it would inspire other Hatters to pursue their healthiest selves. Over the past few months we have shared her story and photos on Facebook, in our weekly Friday Broadcasts, and here on Red Hat Chat

(Queen Sunny wins Navy Run 10k)

After Sunny completed her race this weekend, she took a few minutes to share her thoughts with Hatquarters. Here’s what Queen Sunny had to say:

“I'm home now trying to put the whole thing in perspective. I really had my heart set on getting a ribbon, but I placed 9th ... medals for 1st, 2nd, 3rd and ribbons for 4th-8th. (Just missed it!) My finish time was the same as my State qualifying time. It's like the results of a bone density test - as long as the numbers are not getting worse it is actually very good! The big difference between this race and State was that the conditions were far more challenging. There was lightning all Friday night
- I was up often in the middle of the night watching the sky light up.

Saturday morning, we had a thirty minute delayed start due to the lightning. Once we started it was raining. The beat-up streets quickly filled with puddles; it was windy off the Lake, and more hills than I care to revisit. The 8th place girl was a full 5 minutes faster than me; no way could I have caught her.
This coming week is a recovery week. Some light running, and back to CrossFit classes. No more racing until October.

I don't know if you're reading the Fit 'n Fab chit-chat, but it is ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL how the girls encourage each other. I am filled with joy when I see how the Chapter has evolved.”

Isn't she amazing?! Even after sharing her huge accomplishment, she reflected on the changes other Hatters have made in their own lives. Sunny is a true leader and role model.

Congratulations on placing in the Top 10 in your age bracket, and thank you for wearing your colors with pride Queen Sunny!

Be sure to read this article about the race on Cleveland.com, which featured both Sunny and her husband Benjamin, who also competed. Below is a video of Sunny's finish.

Red Hat Society's July Photo Round-Up

It's that time again! Each month Red Hat Society Members share hundreds of stories and photos with Hatquarters, and we wish we had enough publications to be able to share every memory with the world. Since that is not possible, each 4th Tuesday of the month, we create a photo collage roundup of all of the submissions. We just can't let our Members' beautiful smiles and creativity go unseen.

This month's collages feature photos of Hatters from the US, Canada, Germany, France, and England posted on the Red Hat Society's Facebook Page and submitted via email.  We hope you enjoy the beauty and diversity that is this international Sisterhood!

A Hatter’s Guide To Living

While the Red Hat Society is all about fun and play, we are also well aware of the facts of life. We know that life holds some difficulty for us sooner or later. But the beauty of the Sisterhood is that we can always find someone who has been in our shoes and genuinely understands what we are going through. Although it may not always be possible to do anything to improve the situation for a Sister, we can certainly be there listening and lending a helping hand whenever possible.

Queen Shirley B of the Regal Red Belles of Bakersfield Chapter (California, United States) wrote to tell us about the kindness of her Chapter after she lost her husband to cancer this past March. Her Chapter banded together to bring her family food during the stressful time. They let Queen Shirley know that she was in their thoughts with phone calls, prayers and flowers.

“I am touched and comforted with their caring, and I feel privileged to call these ladies my Sisters,” Queen Shirley B said.

We are very sorry for your loss Queen Shirley, but we are thrilled to learn how the Regal Red Belles have been a support for you.

For many Hatters this scenario is all too familiar. We recently came across an article that shared some tips to help you adjust to living independently and they shared some gems that we put an RHS twist on to share with you.

Continue or (Start) To Play
Your Sisters can be your saving grace. Chapter outings will help take your mind off of yourself and give you something to look forward to.

Find Opportunity In Your Alone Time
Use your alone time to do the things that you love--  Practice an instrument, get in the garden, finish that painting you started years ago. You could use this time to reignite an old passion.

Try Something New
Hatters do it all! We’ve received stories about Hatters trying everything from sky diving to zip lining and attending safaris to shake things up. If you’re not feeling so adventurous, join a dance class or walking group bring a Sister along with you!

Say Yes
Say yes to any new opportunities or invitations coming your way. You never know where a simple yes could lead you.

Do One Thing That Cheers You Up
One thing we love to do is hop on the Queens and Members Board or Facebook to interact with Hatters daily. You are sure to get a good laugh from the many stories, photos and videos the women share each day, and there is never a shortage of women who are ready to chat.

We hope that you will find these tips helpful. Be sure to share them with your Sisters or friend who could use them. You never know, you just might be her reason to smile that day.

Seeking The Next RHS Design Stars

Hatters can be spotted anywhere in their red, purple, pink and lavender regalia, but did you know that some women make Hatting a lifestyle? Yes! As women open up to the wonderful World of Hatting, life takes on a vibrant shade of red (the color of passion) and pink (the color of happiness).

To fully embrace the Hatting lifestyle, many woman have changed the interior decor of their homes to reflect the RHS Colors, and some even drive Red Hat Society inspired cars! Now, the Red Hat Society is going to put these RHS enthusiasts in the spotlight, by featuring their Red Hat rooms in a spread in the upcoming issue of Red Hatter Matters

The photo above was submitted by Queen Scarlett Paula of the Scarlett Butterflies Chapter (Texas, United States) on Facebook this week . Queen Paula gave her garage a Red Hat Makeover, and it's now the perfect location for crafting!

Are you a Hatter with a Red or Pink Hat Room? Share your photos with us on Facebook, or send them to Stories@RedHatSociety.com. Be sure to include when you transformed the room, and why you were inspired to do it!

The Power of Play

It's the first Invite-A-Friend Day of 2013, and we are so excited that women around the world are using this special day to introduce their friends, family members and, in some cases, perfect strangers to the Sisterhood.

Queen Sandy of the G.R.I.T.S. Chapter (Tennessee, United States) took to our Facebook page to share that her Chapter added a new Sister its roster at their gathering today. "Doodle do do DOO," she exclaimed.

As an added bonus to this special day, women who join the Red Hat Society through a Member referral will automatically be entered in the Invite-A-Friend SUPER Contest along with the women who invited them. The winners of the Invite-A-Friend SUPER Contest will win free registration to attend the 2014 Golden Gate Gala International Convention in San Francisco, California and a special convention VIP package. Bowl Full of Goodness

In the Red Hat Society, Fitness is one of the five most important aspects of the Sisterhood. We believe that healthy Hatters are happy Hatters, and we always try to share new tips and tricks with the Sisterhood to help them live healthy lives.
Hatquarters Team Member: Lady Cranberry, Jo Elliot, recently shared with the staff Super Model Cindy Crawford's "Quick Trick Snack Stack" breakfast, which she saw on the Huffington Post. This gluten-free breakfast is fresh, healthy and absolutely scrumptious, and best of all, it takes less than two minutes to prepare!

Quick Trick Snack Stack
In a bowl, layer:
  • Fresh fruit (on bottom)
  • Nuts (unsalted—your favorites)
  • Seeds (sunflower, pumpkin, etc.)
  • Coconut Flakes
  • Dried Fruit as a topper

Lightly pour milk, almond milk or soy milk over your mixture and enjoy! (Cindy keeps all of the ingredients in a separate bowl and just takes a handful of each ingredient and puts it in the bowl for her breakfast.)
Last week, Lady Cranberry brought the ingredients to Hatquarters for a little taste-testing, and it received the Hatter approval from everyone who tried it. This bowl is packed with antioxidants, protein, healthy fats and fiber! Take a look at the pictures, and give it a try. You won't be disappointed!
