Laughing For Health

At the Red Hat Society, Fitness is one of the 5 important F's in our mission statement. In fact, we've got a Hatters' Walk of Fitness page on our website dedicated to inspiring Hatters to be active and stay healthy, because we believe that healthy Hatters are happy Hatters! This week we received a fun and new fitness story from Queen Elizabeth of the Sassy Classy Red Hatters of Orlando (Florida, United States), and it's called Laughter Yoga. Here's what she had to say:

"At our October meeting, Certified Instructor, Pat, introduced us to Laughter Yoga, a hilarious way to improve our mental and physical health.

First, Pat provided a brief history of Laughter Yoga, and shared with us how it is beneficial to our bodies, then, she showed us how we could feel better in a short time and maintain it for the long run.

She pointed out that as we age, we forget to breathe deeply, from the abdominal area. The more oxygen we take into our bodies, the better we can feel, and the more oxygen our brains will have to function.

Laughter is very healthy for most people. It can bring back memories that a person might have of his childhood. Do you recall how you much you laughed while playing? Laughter meant we were having fun and were happy.

When you are with your Sisters or in a group of friends, you can see how contagious smiling and laughing are. It takes just one person to begin chuckling to start a group laughing. A quick look around will show you more than one person taking up the smiles and laughter.  Even those who find nothing humorous could be infected with a grin, a smile or a chuckle."

Thank you for sharing this interesting approach you ladies took toward health and fitness, Queen Elizabeth! Those smiles are definitely contagious!

We love to promote the healthy activities Hatters are pursuing and adding to their Chapter activities. Hats Out Of The Bag

We are well in to our Think Pink month of October! This is an exciting month, because not only are we celebrating the fabulous Pink Hatters who make up the Sisterhood, but we are also preparing for our first RHS Inspired Halloween Costume Contest on Facebook. We have encouraged Hatters to come up with Halloween costumes in RHS Colors. (Red and Purple for the Red Hatters, and pink and lavender for the Pink Hatters. The winners will be featured in any one of our upcoming publications, including the weekly Friday Broadcast newsletter and Red Hatter Matters Magazine.

Since the Red Hat Society is in Think Pink and Halloween mode, we decided to channel some of our creativity into a craft that is perfect for this special month: an RHS "Think Pink" Pumpkin Treat Bag. This cute treat bag would be perfect for upcoming parties, office giveaways, or decorations for your house.

What You Need:

-Paper Bag
-Green Construction paper
-Paint color of your choice. You can use orange to more closely resemble a pumpkin, but we used pink for "Think Pink" month.
-Green Ribbon

1. Paint the paper bag all the way around. We used spray paint to make the process go by faster.
2. Fill the bag with goodies.
3. Twist the top close so it resembles the stem of the pumpkin.
4. Decorate the stem with leaves made from the construction paper and the green ribbon.

Once you have assembled your pumpkin treat bag, you can add a special touch by writing the name of the person receiving the treat bag, or a special Halloween message on it.

Want to learn more about the RHS Halloween Costume Contest? Be sure to like our Facebook page so your can read all of the updates and get in on the different conversations taking place! We can't wait to get to know you! If you wonder what an RHS Inspired costume is, take a look at this Pirate Hatter!

Let's All Think Pink!

During the month of October, The Red Hat Society is going to celebrate the fabulous and important Members of the RHS, Pink Hatters .

Pink Hatters, or Pinkies as we lovingly refer to them, are the Red Hat Society's "Ladies In Waiting". These Hatters wear pink hats and lavender clothing until they reach their momentous 50th Birthday and REDuate Hatters REDuate to red hats and purple regalia. This month, we asked Pinkies to share their stories with the Sisterhood, and Pink Hatter Queen Ambrosia of the Vidatious Red Lilies of the Mountains (North Carolina, United States) took to email right away to tell us about how she became the Queen of her own Chapter!

Queen Ambrosia first encountered the Red Hat Society nine years ago, when she worked at a T-shirt and hat store in North Carolina. She was 19 years old at the time, and the Hatters were frequent visitors to the shop.

"I spent a lot of time with the group showing them different hats and watching them having an absolute ball. That's when I thought about how awesome it would be to go out with girlfriends and not care about how silly I acted," Queen Ambrosia said.

Just a few short years later, Queen Ambrosia met a Hatter who opened the doors to the wonderful world of Hatting to Queen Ambrosia by telling her that she could join as a RHS Member and proud Pink Hatter.

"She explained to me how to get on the website and how to join, and she expressed how important the Legacy was to be carried on through younger generations," she said.

Queen Ambrosia joined the Sisterhood and immediately began contacting Chapters in her area. She was also encouraged by women on the Queens and Member Board, the Red Hat Society's Members-only discussion forum, to start a Chapter of her own. Being the go-getter that she is, Queen Ambrosia took the advice and opened her own Chapter. Now, the Vidatious Red Lilies of the Mountains Chapter is two Members strong and happily accepting new Members.

"The RHS has brought out the giddy school girl in me. I am excited to be a Pinkie Queen  and will enjoy life with my life-long Sisters."

Thank you for sharing your story Queen Ambrosia! You had glitter in your veins from the start, and you are shining bright now!

Do you have a Pink Hat Story that you would like to share? Send it to, and you could be featured in an upcoming Friday Broadcast, Red Hatter Matters, or Red Hat Chat post.
