An RHS Party Hat

Fresh from the RHS DIY Factory is this wonderful RHS Party Hat! One of our ladies came across this great idea, and we adapted it in true RHS style...bling and all! This would be a great project for crafty Chapter outings and Sisterly extravaganzas.

Here's what you need:
-One solid sheet of red or pink card stock paper.
-One sheet of red or decorative scrapbooking paper (preferably card stock) or you can print out one of the free t-shirt printables available on the RHS Website.
-One sheet of 8.5 x 11purple or pink paper construction paper
-A paper plate
-Ribbon
-A thin marker or pencil
-Scissors
-Glue
-Extra decorative elements like rhinestones, feathers or glitter for that extra touch of bling

Step 1: Trace the paper plate on the back of the scrapbooking paper with your thin marker or pencil.
Step 2: Trace the paper plate on the solid red or pink card stock paper with your thin marker or pencil.
Step 3: Cut along the lines traced circles to create the foundations for your hat.
Step 4: Glue the two circles together on one side and let dry.
Step 5: Hold the 8.5 x 11 sheet of construction paper horizontally and cut thin fringes one side. (The thinner the fringes, the more curly cues you can make for the top of your hat.)
Step 6: Wrap one side of the fringe around the marker to create the shape.
Step 7: Place a line of glue along the edge of the non-fringe side and roll to the end with the marker as the shape holder.
Step 8: Hold the edge as it dries and curl the fringe with scissors like you would a balloon string.
Step 9: Measure your head with the open hat and glue according your fit leaving a small hole at the top for your fringe topper.
Step 10: Spread glue along the bottom of the fringe topper.
Step 11: Stick the topper inside the top of the hat.
Step 12: Cut two small holes one either side of the hat with your scissors.
Step 13: String ribbon through the holes and tie a knot at the end inside the hat.
Step 14: Give it a touch of BLING!

And there you have it! An RHS DIY Party Hat!

If you happen to try this craft or any one of the other crafts from this blog, please be sure to submit photos to stories@redhatsociety.com, and we will share them with your Sisters on the RHS Facebook Fan Page!  Happy New Year! RHS Holiday Extravaganzas

Holiday Hatting photos are some of the best photos of the year! We truly are a festive bunch! From a Holiday Hats to "Tacky" Christmas Sweater gatherings, the awesome photos just keep coming.

The Fabulous Foxy Fedoras (Nebraska,United States) submitted these photos from their recent Christmas gathering, where they had a Christmas hat decorating contest. The winner of the contest was Co-queen, Gwynne, whose hat was adorned with poinsettias. In second place was Shirley, followed closely by Barbara Withers in third.

In Ontario, 17 Chapters representing 10 towns across Southern Ontario hosted a tacky (sometimes cute) Christmas sweater, hat and shoes spectacular. "The other patrons of the restaurant were impressed with our smiles and happiness and some took the time to talk with us and comment on our outfits,"  The ability to play with several Chapters in your area is just one of the many perks of being a Supporting Member of the Red Hat Society, and there are no boundaries to amount of Hatting that can occur.

These are just a few of the wonderful pictures received by Hatquarters. If you would like to submit your photos or stories, please send them to Stories@redhatsociety.com.

Hatters On The Go!

Walk, ride or drive Hatters are always on the move! And once you become a Hatter, the colors red and purple, and pink and lavender look good on just about anything, including your transportation! Over the past few months, we have received some fabulous photos of Members whose transportation is just as Hatified as they are! From a 95 year old Hatter on a ruby red, three wheel motorcycle to two Hatters in a golf cart with a massive hat on it; RHS Sisters really know how to show their spirit.

Here are just a few of the fabulous photos that have been submitted by some wonderful ladies:

Myra Rose of the Vintage Girls of “Hysteric” Longwood (Florida, United States) is 95 years-old and full of spunk! Her daughter submitted this awesome photo of her on a ruby red three-wheel motorcycle for a day out in full Regalia!

Thrifty Doreen’s husband knew that she was so passionate about the Red Hat Society that he decided to order her a custom Red Hat beach cruiser!  This Member of the Glitter Girls Chapter (Ontario, Canada) is now cruising around her neighborhood in true Red Hat style!

Queen Louise and Vice Queen Kathy of The Ravishing Royal Damsels (Pennsylvania, United States) showed their RHS pride as they participated in their community parade in full regalia and a golf cart with a beautiful, large red and purple hat on it!

It’s pictures like these that truly capture the spirit that is the Red Hat Society. There truly are no boundaries to the amount of fun that can be had within the Sisterhood. Every Member wears her colors with pride and they express a zealous passion for life! If you have blinged-out mode of transportation that you would like to share with Hatquarters, please feel free to submit your photos to Stories@redhatsociety.com, or you can load them to the Red Hat Society Facebook Fan Page.

DIY RHS Ornaments

Who doesn't love a good project? A few team members from Hatquarters stumbled upon two great DIY ornament projects on Pinterest that we had to share with you Hatters. We think these would make for great Holiday party or gift ideas.

These DIY projects were easy, quick and best of all... FUN!

(Left): Ruby's Pearl
What you need: One clear ornament, one box of red beads and some purple ribbon.

1. Fill the ornament as much as you can with red beads.
2. Make a bow with the purple ribbon through the loop on the top of the ornament.
3. String another piece of ribbon through the loop to hang the ornament on the tree, and either tie or glue the ends together.  (Optional: Secure the top of the ornament with a bit of hot glue if you feel it might be too heavy.)

(Right): 2011 RHS Sparkling Moments Ornament
What you need: One clear ornament, strips of red and purple paper, black marker, red ribbon.

1. Write down some memories that you have shared with your RHS Sisters in 2011.
2. Curl the strips of paper a bit and place them inside of the ornament. Once they are all in the ornament, shake and separate them to your desired appearance.
3. Replace the top and tie a bow through the loop with the red ribbon.
(Queens: Another thing you could do is create several of these ornaments with the names of your Chapterettes inside and give it to them as stocking stuffers!)

*Inspiration for these ornaments came from the following blogs:

A Hat-Tastic Gift!

Red Hat Society CEO, Debra Granich, Lady Bug, returned from her recent trip to Abbotsford, Canada with a wonderful surprise for Hatquarters. Evelyn, Queen of Glitz & Glamour of the Valley Red Haute’s (British Columbia, Canada) not only hosted Lady Bug during her trip, but she also made her a beautiful red and purple satin tree skirt with blinging jeweled hats, which is currently on display in the Hat-tastic lobby of Hatquarters!
Lady Bug was beaming as she unveiled this wonderful gift to the team, and words cannot describe how honored we were to receive such a heart-felt memento from the Queen of Glitz & Glamour. This tree skirt will be on display every holiday season, and it will serve as a reminder of the year of the Legacy. Thank you very much Evelyn for this wonderful end-cap to an amazing year!

The Red Hat Society believes that random acts of kindness are at the root of the Sisterhood. Hatters submit heart-warming stories daily about their experiences in the RHS and the kindness and friendship shown to them by fellow Hatters, and it’s random acts like these that keep the Society alive and thriving! This truly is a Society made up of some of the most amazing women in the world! But don’t just take our word for it! Read for yourself the Testimonials that have been provided by several Hatters that were submitted on our recently added Testimonials Page!

Holiday Hatventure Challenge

Have you noticed that when you become a Red Hat Society Member, the world seems to take on a red and purple (or pink and lavender) hue? Anything we see and do can become an activity that we can share with our Sisters and Chapterettes. Yes, Hatters are some of the most creative women in the world when it comes to finding unique ways to turn daily living into daily Hatventures! Household items like the plunger are blinged out and turned into “royal scepters,” and virtually any item can become a fabulous hat! This month Hatquarters received several pictures and stories from Hatters who took pictures in unique locations where the objects behind them looked like a Hat or Crown!
Queen Mother Mary of the Royal Razzle Dazzlers Chapter (Illinois, United States) sent Hatquarters a wonderful Christmas card, in which she included several pictures of herself standing in front of different objects that made it look like she was wearing a crown. We also came across a wonderful photo on the Queens & Members Board earlier this month of Queen Sparkle Plenty Judy Wallis of the Hen-der-hatters (Henderson. Tennessee, United States) who took a photo in front of a large red tree that was just the perfect height to look like a hat!

The truth is, Hatters love to have fun, and they really go all out! We wanted to share these great photos and lay out a little challenge for you! With all of the fabulous Holiday d├ęcor on display, try to find a location that would make for a perfect “picture hat” and share your photos with Hatquarters. You can post them on the Queensand Members Board, the Red Hat Society Facebook Page or submit them to Stories@theredhtsociety.com. This is a great way to spread a little holiday cheer and laughter with your Sisters!

Do you have a great story or picture that you would like to send to Hatquarters?

We love to receive stories that we can use in any one of our various publications! If you have a great story with photos that you would like to submit, attach them in an email and send them to Stories@redhatsociety.com.  You can also LIKE the Red Hat SocietyFacebook Page and you can upload your photos and include a brief description there.

If you don’t have access to email, just place them in an envelope and mail your stories and photos to:

Please don’t forget to include photos with your stories! Your smiling faces always brighten the day and we want to make sure to share them with all your Red and Pink Hat Sisters!
