Red Snappers Ring In the Holidays

The Holidays are here and Hatquarters is already receiving great stories of holiday Hativities! As you can see, we love to post stories with great pictures, and when we saw these photos, we just had to share them. Queen Mum Cheryl of the Red Snappers (British Columbia, Canada) wrote to Hatquarters about her Chapter’s Christmas potluck luncheon and Birthday celebration for Chapter Member Lady LaVern who turned “28.”

“We had 15 Red Snappers come out, and we all realized that there are fantastic cooks in our chapter!!!! We had candles for Lady La Vern, because she likes to say her age in reversed order, we put 28 on the cake! We wore our regular hats at the beginning of the luncheon and then later on some of us switched over to the Xmas hats we made recently. The celebration included couple of games along with goody bags, favors on the tables, and prizes for everyone on the raffle draws. Trying to figure out the carols that went along with the photos created a lot of laughs.”

You Hatters are so crafty, and those Hats are too cute for words!! Please share with us how you made them so that we can include them in the Activities Collection. Queen Mum Cheryl also shared with us her Chapter motto, which was an old saying of her Chapter Member, Lady Giggle’s grandmother. “Common sense is good to have, but never let it master you, for then it might deprive you of the foolish things it’s fun to do.” We love this Queen Mum Cheryl! Thank you for sharing!

Do you have a fun story that you would like to share? Please submit it to Stories@redhatsociety.com.

First and foremost, we hope all of you who are in the US had a wonderful Thanksgiving! For those of you who are not in the US, may we use this time of year to say thank you!  We at RHS would like to thank all of you wonderful Hatters for bringing to life the mission of the Red Hat Society. This year Hatquarters took to the road in an effort to really get to know the Membership of the RHS, and this journey has given us the opportunity to come face-to-face with the women who have embraced the five “F’s”: Fun, Friendship, Freedom, Fulfillment and Fitness. These women are not only doing wonderful things for their livelihood, but they are positively impacting the lives of those around them as they share their stories, their smiles, their laughs, their tears, and the spirit, the power and the magic of the Hat.

This month we asked the Hatters to tell us about special moments they have experienced within the Red Hat Society and we featured several answers in the Friday Broadcast. However, we received so many wonderful answers that we wanted to share a few more in the spirit of thanks:

Duchess of coupons PaulaThe Red Bonnet Belles (New York, United States)
“I am new to the Red Hat Society. I'm a Pink Hatter who has only been a member for 2 months. On our first outing, I was greeted with open arms like I have always been part of the group. Recently, our Chapter joined with another for a P.J. Brunch at a golf course. I am handicapped and do not drive and the public transportation I use to get to appointments and outings would not take me that far, but my Queen Mother offered to give me a ride so that I could go. That is true Red Hat spirit.”

Queen of Quite A LotPurple, Red and Ravishing (California, United States)
I am Queen of Purple, Red and Ravishing and I feel oh so special and loved every time my chapter gathers. I have the best group of Red and Pink Hatter's ever. These ladies are so dedicated to the Red Hat Society and our chapter and they accept change so willingly and gracefully. I couldn't ask for a better support system as Queen and that makes me feel special.

Queen Mum
Garnet Gals (Ohio, United States)
“Recently the Garnet Gals went to a local Chinese buffet restaurant and our "Keeper of the Memories" wanted a photo. We assembled in front of the Restaurant, and little did I know that hanging in the restaurants window was a neon crown. My dear friends rearranged and rearranged until I was under the crown. At the next get-together I was presented with a picture of myself and my girls with me ‘wearing’ the most wonderful crown.”

Create Memories Of Your Own in The Red Hat Society

The Golden Belles of Clarington Spruce Up Produce

Red Hat Society Members are some of the most talented and creative women out there, and Chapter gatherings can involve anything from costume parties, to pottery and painting parties, to pumpkin and vegetable decorating parties. That’s right, we said VEGETABLE DECORATING parties! During the month of October, Hatquarters received several pictures of pumpkins and scarecrows that had been blinged out in true Red Hat fashion. This month we received some really fun pictures from Queen Lady Jean of the Golden Belles of Clarington Red Hats (Ontario, Canada) whose Chapter hosted its own vegetable decorating competition.
The Golden Belles rented a covered area at a local park and hosted a “Decorate A Vegetable in a Red Hat” themed party.  The women used squash, zucchini, cucumbers, carrots, sweet potatoes and cauliflower as the base vegetables for their creations and spruced them up with decorative items, including tulle, feathers, jewelry, boas, glue-on eyes and lips, and of course, little red hats! The Red Hat Veggies these ladies created were so special that we had to post them on our blog. From the Red Hat Squash Queen to the Red Onion Red Hat Queen and the Cauliflower bouquet made for a Red Hat Bride, these pictures are so much fun!

Whoever thought vegetables could be so festive? This is definitely an activity that we could include in the Activities Collection on the Red Hat Society Website. Can you imagine all of the creations we Hatters can submit? This is why we love getting new ideas! Photos and stories of other fun ideas can be submitted to Stories@redhatsociety.com.

Check out the Fun Stuff!

A Sassy Vacation

Red Hat Society Sisters do several activities together within their Chapters, and Hatquarters loves to learn about them. From breakfasts and lunches, to evenings on the town and trips to unique sites, there’s never a shortage of submissions! This sweet story came from the Sassy Classy Hatters (Arkansas, United States). These ladies went on a trip to be envied! Here’s their story:

“The Sassy Classy Hatters embarked upon a trip to the Gulf Coast to enjoy the Southern hospitality of Ocean Springs, Biloxi, and Gulfport, Mississippi.

Our vacation home was beautiful and sat on the banks of the Biloxi Bay under beautiful oak trees, overlooking the bay where we watched the pelicans and dolphins play in the water.

One day we took a trip to New Orleans French Quarters and another day to Mobile, Al. There was a casino night at some of the beautiful casinos in Biloxi and playtime on the sand of the beach. A stop at "Aunt Jenny's" for seafood dinners and fellowship in our red hats was great!!

We walked down the streets of downtown Ocean Springs to take in the sights of the stores and looks at the beautiful antique cars. They were awesome! Our game night filled with games like "Pokeno" and "Minute to Win It" were a hit and we thank Leschia for all her hard work putting the games together and getting those wonderful prizes.

This sounds like it was a wonderful trip Sassy Classy Hatters. We could almost smell that Biloxi Bay with how perfectly you described it! Thank you for sharing!

Do you have a fun story you would like to submit? Send it to stories@theredhatsociety.com and you could see it on the Friday Broadcast or the RHS Blog.

The Flaming Goddesses Have a Dramatic Outing

This fun story was submitted by Ambassador Marg, Head Goddess of the Flaming Goddesses (Ontario, Canada). This Chapter recently hosted an outing in celebration of their favorite English soap opera “Coronation Street.” You can see Marg dressed as Fred the Butcher (complete with a sausage necklace).

“We celebrated the 51-year-old English soap opera called "Coronation Street" with something called a PING.  Many years ago the word pint was misspelled and parties for fans of the series became known as PINGS. We enjoyed a British lunch of fish and chips, haggis, baked beans and a wonderful dessert called snowballs.  Music, food, laughter-a wonderful typical Red Hat event!”

These pictures were so great that we had to share them! It looks like you ladies had a wonderful time! If you would like to see more stories from RHS Hatters visit www.redhatsociety.com, or become a Supporting Member and you can view recent Friday Broadcasts, Inspiring Hatters and Tidbits from Hatquarters.

What is the Friday Broadcast?

We talk a lot about the Friday Broadcasts, because it is an essential form of communication between Hatquarters and RHS Members. The Friday Broadcast includes a weekly message from Exalted Queen Mother, Sue Ellen Cooper, stories from Hatters around the world and news about upcoming events and changes in within RHS. Active members receive this Broadcast via e-mail on Friday mornings (sometimes Thursday nights if they are up late), and Hatquarters posts it under the Fun Stuff tab on the RHS home page weekly.

A F.L.A.B.ulous Coronation

The Red Hat Society loves its Queens! The coronation process is just one of the many great ways Chapterettes honor their leading ladies and this wonderful story of the Femmes Loquacious and always Bodacious’ (F.L.A.B.) recent coronation of Queen La Reine Drivet is just one fabulous example of how some Hatters celebrate their Queens.

“After many months of planning, the Chapterettes of F.L.A.B. (Trinidad and Tobago) executed the plans for the “Redoronation” of our Queen, La Reine Drivet.

The Queen was met as she stepped out of her vehicle with three of her Subjects. Madame Vy bowed low while handing her Queen a glass of bubbly and the other two, Baroness Jah Jah and Lady Pote l’eglise, with their fans made of palm branches, painted in red and purple, fanned ‘Her Majesty’ into the ceremony where the others were standing awaiting her grand entrance.

The evening turned out to be a delightful one! There was a skit as well as Red Hat pledging, crowning, robing, the presentation of a special Queen pin and other frivolities. All in all, a wonderful evening of Fun, Friendship and Frivolity was had by all.”

Coronations are always fun to read about and you ladies really went all out! Thank you for sharing this wonderful story! The Coronation process is just one of the many fun perks of being a Queen. Queens also receive a wonderful MembershipKit, which changes every year, and includes a gold Membership card, a pin and charm, the Official Charter Certificate for her Chapter and much more. She is also the first to know the latest happenings at Hatquarters through the Queen-to-Queens newsletter sent out monthly by Exalted Queen Mother Sue Ellen Cooper. The RHS gives its Queens the freedom to reign as they see fit, as long as they are sticking to the Red Hat Society Mission of Fun, Friendship, Fulfillment and Fitness. Click here  to learn more about becoming a Queen today!

Queenly Issues
There are several reasons why some women might be hesitant about becoming a Queen, including concern about how to find Chapterettes, how to find time to plan activities, and how to get their Members to pay or renew their yearly dues. The great news is that Hatquarters is here to help Queens every step of the way. They can use the Events Calendar, International Conventions, Hoots, and the Queens and Members Board to locate Hatters in their area. There is also great ActivitiesCollection on the RHS website to give Queens ideas of some fun things to do with their Chapters, and the Queens Handbook located in the Membership Kit offers several ways to discuss the issue of dues with their Members. Queens can also call Member Services at 866-386-2850 (U.S.) 714-738-0001 (International) Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. PST.

Prairie Chicks Host a Halloween Hoot

Halloween stories were pouring into Hatquarters thanks to Ruby RedHat’s Facebook request for Hatters to submit their Halloween adventures. This story came from Queen Ruth of the Prairie Chicks Chapter (Manitoba, Canada). Their Halloween Hoot attracted several “celebrities,” goblins, witches and other characters that were ready to play!

“The “witching” hour was upon us!! For one day our “Chicks” turned into witches, pirates, clowns, cowgirls, Mexican Caballeros’, ghosts, goblins, Draculas and many more strange and wonderful creatures as we celebrated at our Halloween party. Anne of Green Gables, Raggedy Anne, Mary Poppins and a teeny bopper from the 50’s all decked out in a poodle skirt dropped in too. Our own Sweet Stella took home one of the top prizes for her 50’s costume.

We got an early start to the day, and how better to begin the festivities than to sit down to a potluck dinner? We needed to build up a lot of energy for the activities ahead such as the costume parade, dancing to the Monster Mash and playing the many contests and games that Vivacious Verna had prepared. We even had to stop for dessert and coffee in the mid afternoon, just to build up our strength! Our silent auction was a huge success, the games, music and dancing were a lot of fun, Mary Poppins sang and danced for us and the whole day was a great “Halloween Hoot.” Congratulations to all of our Prairie Chick sisters, who attended, wore costumes, participated in all of the activities and took home prizes. We had a very special Red Hatters day filled with fun, friendship, love and always a lot of laughter. That is what we do when we gather in sweet sisterhood!!!!!!”

It sounds like you ladies had quite a party Queen Ruth! Thank you for sharing this great idea and these awesome pictures! You ladies have a lot of spirit! The Big D Re-Gals Make A Lasting Halloween Impression

Red and Pink Hatters are not only celebrities in the RHS, but they are often celebrities in their own cities. It’s rare to see a group of women who are so vibrant and full of life as the women in this Sisterhood, which is why it is only natural that their spirit causes such a celebrity-like frenzy! Queen Cynthia and the Big D Re-Gals of Dallas, Texas, recently discovered that they were famous with the employees of a local restaurant!

“We had a costume Halloween lunch at Babe's Chicken Dinner House for the fourth year in a row. The manager sat at our table to talk, and I asked where his costume was. I told him that the manager last year had dressed as a pimp in a purple suit and hat, and we took a picture of him with Spycee Jean, who was dressed as a dominatrix. He said that was his assistant manager and that our pictures are hanging in his office. He calls us ‘his girls.’

They even dressed their resident dummy in the purple suit this year, and within a few minutes, the dummy was rolled to the end of our table, and he kept us company and posed for pictures throughout our lunch. We also included him in this year's group picture.

We had a great time at Babe's again and hope to continue our Halloween tradition there.”

We’re sure Babe’s Chicken Dinner House can’t wait for Halloween 2012 ladies! Queen Cynthia submitted this wonderful story in response to a Facebook post from the RHS Mascot Ruby Redhat who interacts with Hatters on a daily basis. Ruby requested great Halloween photos and stories from Hatters this week, and Queen Cynthia obliged! If you would like to learn more about Ruby’s daily activities and ramblings, you can add her as a Friend on Facebook.  While you are there, LIKE the The Red Hat Society’s Facebook Fan Page!

A Ravishing Experience at Tri State "T" 9

This week Hatquarters was lucky to receive the cutest recap of Tri-State “T” 9 from Queen of Quite A Lot, Diana, of the Purple, Red and Ravishing Chapter (California, United States). This event, which took place in Laughlin, Nevada was one of the many stop on Hatquarters’ worldwide road trip, and while CEO, Debra Granich and Hatquarters Liason, Laura Martin, Lady de Fleur came back with their great stories from this Chapter event, it’s always wonderful to read about the experiences from the Members’ points of view.

“October was a very busy, event filled month for Purple, Red and Ravishing with the big event and trip being the Laughlin Tri-State "T". Those of us who attended had a great time making new friends and visiting old friends.  We rented a big 12 passenger van so we could all travel together, and that in itself was fun. It was a white van and I put big Red Hat Society magnets on the driver and passenger doors.  We looked so official!

As we rolled up to the front of the Aquarius Casino and Hotel we noticed many Red Hatters waving at us so Queen Diana started honking the horn and more ladies joined in waving.  We looked so "official" pulling up we thought the other ladies must have thought it was the Exalted Queen Mother Sue Ellen or at the very least CEO Ladybug Debra. I hope they weren't too disappointed when we started piling out of the van!

First thing we did was hit the shopping district, and there were so many vendors with beautiful must-have items from jewelry to hats to clothing and much, much more. Then there were our Bra Hats, boy were they a hit, we got so many compliments and questions about them! Judy Hedges was our announcer, as soon as someone looked at us for more than a few seconds or commented about our hats Judy would say "it's a bra you know" and everyone would have a good laugh.

This kind of big event is something every Red and Pink Hat lady needs to experience for herself. That being said I encourage all of you to really consider attending the RHS International Convention in Las Vegas in June 2012.”
