Hatters at Oktoberfest

What better way to celebrate the start of Fall than by attending an Oktoberfest?

Queen Diana of the Purple, Red and Ravishing chapter (California, United States), writes, “Chapterette Maggie planned the day for us in Huntington Beach on Sunday, September 18th.  We had lunch at the Old World Restaurant and then took in the Dachshund Races, which were family pets just running, playing and having fun. The dogs were so cute with such playful spirits, kind of like us. While watching the ‘races’ some of the ladies indulged in such decadent treats as chocolate fudge cake, white chocolate cake and a favorite treat, funnel cake.

The weather was beautiful and all the ladies were in high spirits dressed in their Red and Pink Hats and their purple and lavender outfits. The bonds of Sisterhood were never stronger as we laughed, played and shared the day.” Here’s hoping the rest of the season is just as special!

The Clock Is Ticking!

There are only a few days left to sign up for the London trip! Registration closes after September 30, but there’s still time to join the fun! Not only will you get the once-in-a-lifetime chance to march in the world-televised London New Year’s Day Parade, but you will get to tour one of the most beautiful countries in the world with your fellow Red Hat Society sisters! But that’s not all: your friends and family can come on the trip, too! In fact, the London trip is the only RHS event that’s open to friends and family of Hatters, so take advantage of this opportunity!

You Know You’re A Hatter When…

The ladies on the Queens and Members Board, our exclusive internet forum, are always saying funny and insightful things! Last week, the ladies started a thread titled, “You know you are a Red Hatter when…”  Here are some of our favorite responses!
“You know you are a Red Hatter when the doctor wants to schedule an appointment. But you say, ‘Can we do a different date? I have a Red Hat event that day!’”

“When most of the clothes in your closet are either purple or red.”

“When your husband can tell you need a RH fix!”

“You know you're a Red Hatter when your dryer lint is always purple except during your birthday month and then it is all red!”

“When you have a wall of hatboxes.”

“When you get excited to see Barbie in a purple outfit so you can add the red hat.”

“When you can spot red and purple from 60 yards at thrift store, yard sale, or flea market!”

“When you dream in purple and red!”

“The tattoo on your shoulder is a Red Hat lady.”

“Your boss quits asking why you need a Friday and/or Monday off.”

This is just a little of what it’s like to be a Hatter, of course: become a Member today and get the full experience!

Hatters On a Boat!

Queen Gwen of the Red Hat Mamas of Alameda County (California, United States) wanted to make sure we heard about a recent multi-chapter event!

Gwen writes, “I, along with one of my chapterettes, Lady Nancy organized a multi-chapter event -- a 2-hour cruise on the U.S.S. Potomac, the Floating White House of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt.  There were ‘representatives’ from many Red Hat chapters aboard and some from as far away as Vacaville, and of course, as close as Oakland.

There were 60+ Red Hat ladies and, as usual, we sure made an impression on the folks from the Potomac!” It’s clear that Hatters are the life of the party on land AND sea!

A Great Gift Idea!

Membership in the Red Hat Society is a perfect gift anytime! A woman can become a part of the RHS in two ways; as a Queen of a chapter or as a Supporting Member. A Birthday Tradition

The Red Snappers (British Columbia, Canada) have a special tradition for every chapterette who celebrates a birthday! Queen Cheryl says, “We had a great day on July 28th going on the Stanley Park Carriage tour and then having lunch at Prospect Point.  Lady Rose Red chose this event for her birthday celebration.  In our chapter each lady decides what she wants to do to celebrate her birthday and gives me the details, date, time etc.

We then meet up at that particular place.  We have been doing this over the last few years and it has been fantastic.  The birthday girl can do something that she has been wanting to do.  The weather was beautiful (sun at long last with warm temperatures) for our ride through the park.  It takes around one hour.

I am sure we all learned a little something about Vancouver from the tour guide.  We had a delicious lunch and enjoyed each other’s company afterwards.” What a great way to celebrate!

You can find more uplifting stories in our monthly InspiringHatters email! This email is sent only to Supporting Members, and features some of the most inspiring stories that Hatters send in! These stories, like the Purple Alert and Sock Monkey Sisterhood, have been discussed by Hatters everywhere, and inspired many to reach out to their sisters in new ways! A Unique Celebration

The Scarlet O'Hatters (Alberta, Canada) have a unique way of celebrating their RHS Anniversary. Queen (and RHS Ambassador!) Carol writes, “The chapter’s official charter date is Dec. 29th and no one seems to want to do anything special at that time of year. Therefore, we plan a different celebration on the half year -- this is it is 5 1/2 years since the start of the chapter. I organized a dinner at the Mongolie Grill and got little treats ready for the whole chapter to be silly.  There were big red and purple ties, lovely teeth and blinking noses. The whole restaurant chuckled when they walked past our table.  Even the chefs from the back came over to see what we were all laughing about.  If you can't be silly in red and purple you might as well not wear it at all!” We couldn’t agree more, Carol!

Remember, you can read more stories on the weekly Friday Broadcast! Each Broadcast features exclusive stories from Hatters around the world, and only Supporting Members have access to all of them! A Video For Women Everywhere
Have you seen and shared the “We Are Women” video yet? This special film was made for women, by women! Our goal was to spread the word about women’s special gifts, and inspire women everywhere! Please accept this video as our gift to you...and one we sincerely request that you will share with all the special women in your life. Sharing is simple and can be done by clicking the "share" button at the bottom of the video. Our Society grew through word of mouth—and what a resounding voice we have! Because of our Legacy, we believe it is important to reignite that word of mouth through today's medium— the internet.

Get Your Pirate Gear On!
Hatters love any reason to get dressed up and play, so of course we love International Talk Like A Pirate Day! Take Them Out to the Ballgame

Marilyn, a Red Hat Society Ambassador and Queen, and her Red Hat Vintage Ladies (Arizona, United States) decided to catch a baseball game!

Marilyn writes, “We descended on the Kino Sports Complex to watch the Padres and Colorado play. My lovely lady Karen aka Princess Turtle planned the event and gathered 30 other guests representing 5 chapters. We had Hamburgers and Hot Dogs in the hospitality suite before the game. Our hubbys were also invited for this fun evening.

We played ‘Take Me Out To The Ballgame’ on our kazoos at the seventh inning. The crowd loved us! Give Red Hatters a place to gather and they will have fun! (By the way, the Padres won 6-1!)”

Get Ready to Share the Hat!

We want to cover the world with encouragement from the wonderful and empowering women that make up the Red Hat Society! Join us on September 12, 2011 and give a Share the Hat card to anyone, female or male, who deserves to be acknowledged for doing something wonderful, kind or thoughtful for you, someone you know or someone who has made an impact in the world. Consider your caring message on the Share the Hat card as a way to recognize good in others that might have gone unnoticed. It is our hope that through this simple act of kindness, more and more phenomenal women will be inspired to join us in our quest to (tongue in cheek) take over the world!

The team at Hatquarters believes that the "magic" that is brought about by our symbolic Red Hat is something that should be shared. The feelings of fun, friendship, freedom and fulfillment of lifelong dreams are powerful and the joy in receiving that gift is universal. With this concept in mind, we have created a special card that you can download that will provide you with a way to share the magic in the hat with all that you come in contact with. Use it as a way to empower a stranger, recognize a Sister or thank a neighbor. It's simple.

   1. Print the cards and wait for the opportunity to recognize someone.

   2. Write an anonymous note "filling their pot" with why they deserve some of the RHS magic.

This is your opportunity to show someone that you think they are a STAR!

We Hatters are grateful, observant women willing to acknowledge goodness when we see it. While it's not practical to actually give someone a real hat, we can easily give them a little note with our heartfelt expressions. We will make these Share the Hat cards available all year for your use. We would love to hear your stories about how this sharing impacts your lives. Please email your stories and pictures to stories@redhatsociety.com.

REDuating at the Big Easy Bash

Two beautiful Pink Hatters REDuated (a REDuation is the ceremony where a Pink Hatter, having reached the “magic” birthday, trades her pink hat for a red one) at the Big Easy Bash in New Orleans!  Lady Lace captured this video of the special moment! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wtj5hsGYqlA  What a way to celebrate!

Hatter of the Year!

For the last year, the Red Hat Society has been asking Hatters to nominate their friends for the “Hatter ofthe Year.” We were looking for a really special Hatter, someone who embodies the Red Hat spirit! The Nominate a Hatter contest was devised because the Sisterhood is made up of inspiring women who deserve recognition for the impact they have made on the lives of others.

We are honored to have such amazing women as a part of the Society and it is our distinct privilege to share them with the world. Thank you for all you do to ensure the Legacy of our Society lives on for generations to come.

The first Hatter of the Year is...Linda, Queen TooToo of the Red Hat Jambalaya Mamas (Louisiana, United States)!

As the first EVER "Hatter of the Year," This Sister has been called "a helper," "outgoing," "outpourer of love," "talented," "best friend," "confidant," "mentor," "angel," "a joy to be around," "a truly wonderful lady," "an inspiration," "someone who will pick you up when you are down and feel discouraged," "the essence of Red Hatting," "someone who will do ANYTHING for a Red Hatter," just to name a few. She belongs to several Queens Councils and hails from the New Orleans area. Not only has she continuously embodied the true 'spirit' of RHS, she has shared the true 'spirit' of RHS.

What an inspirational Hatter and one we are certainly proud to call a Sister!

A group of Red Hatters from Southern California enjoyed the fun at a chapterette’s home in Garden Grove. They decided to beat the heat by having a fabulous pool party!

Queen Cathy of the Ruby Rail Cruisers (California, United States) says, “We all had a blast. Lots of great food, swimming, and Mexican Train domino games.”

Party on, ladies!
